Buy now: Organic lentil flour orzo 1kg
Rice and shine! Every day, there are more new possibilities for your dinner. You could make a pumpkin and chickpea curry with rice and cashews. Or a spicy Mexican rice. Or fried rice. Or, well, we've made our point. We are huge rice fans. But we are also KoRo, meaning we have a weakness for creating new products. Along with real classics, such as our organic Basmati rice, Jasmine rice and risotto rice, we now present our lentil flour orzo!
Looks like rice, tastes like pasta
You can call it what you want: the flavourful product is called kritharaki, orzo or manestra in Greece while Italians prefer risoni or risi. It is also often called Greek pasta in other countries. Traditionally, orzo is made from wheat flour semolina and water, but you know we like to try out new things :). We used legumes for our orzo, more specifically, 100 % lentil flour. This gives the pasta a lot of power, with 3 times more protein than conventional white rice* (26 g/100 g) and 4 times more fibre**! Convincing on all fronts!
Using orzo pasta as a rice substitute
Preparing orzo is very easy: use 1 litre of lightly salted water for 100 g of orzo. Bring the water to a boil, add the orzo and stir occasionally until you reach the desired consistency (5-6 minutes should be enough). Then drain the pasta and that's it: you have a tasty rice substitute!
Tasty rice recipes with orzo
And we get to the daily food question once again. Our lentil flour orzo can be prepared in many different ways. Make a vegetable coconut curry with peanut butter or an easy winter curry for the cold days of the year. Sometimes, a simple fried rice with some vegetables, tofu and tomato sauce also does the trick. Our rice alternative is great both as a main course as well as a side dish. Try it and taste for yourself!
