Pesto verde – green basil pesto 

Quick Italian lesson: "verde" means "green" Our pesto verde's name comes from it's colour and the ingredients used, in this case, 31 % Italian basil. We add a bit of sunflower oil, cashews, tofu, pine nuts, some garlic and a pinch of salt and our pesto is ready!  Okay so that's what vegan pesto is made of, but now back to the question of what pesto actually is! Pesto comes from Italy and is an uncooked, pasty sauce that is usually served with pasta. The first traditional pesto was made as early as 1863 and is thought to be derived from a Roman herb and cheese sauce - or a medieval variation of a standard Roman condiment.
