Where is quinoa grown?

Accepted Answer

Just like amaranth, quinoa is grown exclusively in Central and South America. There it is a very old crop. More than 95% of world production comes from Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.

Question 2

Does the puffed quinoa contain gluten?

Accepted Answer

Quinoa belongs to the group of so-called "pseudocereals" and is therefore naturally gluten-free. However, since quinoa comes into contact with machines that process other gluten-containing foods during the manufacturing process, it may contain traces of gluten.

Question 3

How does quinoa taste?

Accepted Answer

Quinoa has a nutty, mild flavor that is particularly versatile in sweet dishes.

Question 4

What recipes can I make with quinoa?

Accepted Answer

We have many recipes with puffed quinoa for you on our site. Just click on our recipes section and browse through a number of delicious ideas: There are for example our Nutclusters, or the Soy Crispy Bites. Of course, you can also use quinoa as a crunchy light topping on your smoothie bowl with acai or Porridge. We have also used the grain, for example, as an ingredient in our organic whole rice cakes with 7 seeds.

Question 5

What are the types of quinoa? Which one is right for me?

Accepted Answer

White quinoa is the most common and is usually cheaper than other varieties. The taste is slightly nutty. Red quinoa tastes quite similar, but is a bit firmer to the bite and has a minimally longer cooking time. Red quinoa, similar to the black version, also takes a bit longer to cook. Because it holds its shape and looks pretty, you're best off using it as a highlight for salads. Puffed quinoa is also known as the popcorn of the Incas and looks great in your breakfast.

Question 6

Is your quinoa healthy?

Accepted Answer

A healthy lifestyle focuses on a balanced and varied diet. Our Quinoa Pops score especially as a delicious, light and airy topping on your yogurt and can also be used, for example, as a substitute for conventional, usually additionally sweetened granola.

Question 7

What is puffed quinoa?

Accepted Answer

Quinoa is a very old crop and a pseudocereal. The plant has been cultivated in the highlands of the Andes for more than 5,000 years and is considered a staple food there. Puffed quinoa is virtually the 'popcorn of the Incas' and is created under a lot of pressure and heat. The puffed version of the grain is light and airy and therefore great as a topping and in (sweet) recipes.
